Job Title: Assistant Controller, Real Estate

Status: Full-time, Exempt

Salary: $100,000-$115,000k + bonus potential

About this role:
This role leads the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, reports, and visualizations for all real estate properties. It involves high-level accounting functions, including interpreting complex fiscal data across multiple legal entities and consolidating them into parent structures. The ideal candidate can communicate these complexities to others and is responsible for budgeting analysis, general ledger reconciliation, and maintaining control schedules. Additional duties include preparing CAM reconciliations, business tax returns, and audit schedules for external auditors.

What you'll do:

  • Review all invoices/bills for proper general ledger coding and ensure the correct Entity/Company is selected.
  • Review all invoices for potentially unbilled “Sales/Use Tax,” if missed record and remit to the state.
  • Review accounts receivable and actively pursue collections, with a goal of having no AR in the over 90+ category.
  • Assist in lease retrieval and identification of certain clauses in order to aid the in AR Collections with tenants.
  • Assist in lease retrieval and identification of certain clauses in order to aid the Operations Group in determining legal issues with tenants.
  • Receive, prepare and post journals to the General Ledger including, but not limited to, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accruals, recurring, cash, payroll, insurance, inter-company and construction in progress projects as activity occurs.
  • Prepare and maintain various Balance Sheet supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements and reports. Explaining any variances to budgets.
  • Reconcile Balance Sheets accounts as needed.
  • Research financial data inconsistencies, discrepancies, errors, etc. and make corrections as needed.
  • Analyze, interpret, draw conclusions, and report results of various financial data such as trending patterns, benchmark comparisons, etc.
  • Update SAGE (fixed asset system) for deferred charges.
  • Participate in the annual budget process, gathering financial data as needed.
  • Prepare the annual audit schedules and assist auditors in answering their questions regarding account transactions, balances, location of files, etc.
  • Project/Capital Job Tracking; utilizing Construction by entering budgets, revisions to budgets, contractor contracts that will be used to pay invoices against, and managing change orders.
  • Prepare yearly CAM reconciliations.
  • Enter new leases and/or lease renewals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year College or University; and at least five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Working with multiple companies/entities & the consolidation of these companies/entities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must respond quickly to changing demands and deadlines.
  • Must be able to work independently and show good judgment in dealing with confidential matters.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • An accounting or financial degree is required.
