Proud of our rich regional newspaper heritage, Northwest Offset Printing (NWOP) is excited to be the premier commercial offset printer in Spokane Valley, Washington. We are the direct evolution from printing facilities that have printed the Cowles family-owned regional newspaper, The Spokesman-Review, for over 140 years, first printing The S-R in our brand-new facility, June 2020. Since then, NWOP has gone on to acquire dozens of regional and national print customers. Taking the time to build it right, we continue to develop and expand complete services of pre-flight, print, bindery, direct mail, and custom delivery.

 

Position: Prepress Technician

Status: Full-time, Hourly/Non-Exempt

Salary: $20-24/hr.

Hours: Saturday – Wednesday, Swing Shift

Location: Spokane Valley, WA

 

About this role:

This position serves to process and prepare printing files, advertisements, photos, and plates in a production environment, for both commercial and newspaper offset web and digital presses.  

 

What you'll do:

Process all digital advertising files received electronically into an ad workflow system using Macintosh computers and all standard design software.  

• Prepare all files for CMYK color space. Correction of four-color text and images. 
• Prepare photos as needed for CMYK and grayscale printing. 
• Prepare all advertising images for print in CMYK using a variety of software programs. 
• File correction as needed using multiple software platforms. 
• Provide customer service via phone and email communications.   
• Operate and maintain all CTP units, proofing devices, plate processors, plate benders, and computers.  
• Manage and prepare all commercial print projects using digital means. Preparation may consist of software application knowledge in many different page design programs, pagination, imposition, proofing, output, and plating. Some require job set up and printing on a Canon ImagePress. 
• Become knowledgeable and proficient working in a cloud based proprietary workflow.  
• Some design may be required, depending on skill level. 
• Assist the Production with Quality control of the overall product. 
• Other duties as assigned. 

 

You'll contribute to our team:

• Ability to self-train in new software applications using electronic, web, and written forms
• Typing at 35 wpm
• Understanding of basic proofreader marks
• Attention to details is critical
• Ability to maintain pace with schedules and work well under deadline pressures.
• Experience in print file workflows preferably Kodak Prinergy and Insite Portal
• Adobe Creative Cloud required, and other graphic design and publishing programs preferred
• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
